Topic: Assessment and Feedback in Mathematics
Learning outcomes:Effective methods for assessing student learning in math and providing constructive feedback are essential for student progress. The National Policy of Education 1986 recommended moving away from rote memorization and introduced Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) with grading systems. The New Education Policy 2020 further emphasizes transforming assessments to be regular, formative, and competency-based, focusing on higher-order skills and continuous learning improvements.
To foster holistic development, there's a need to shift from traditional assessments to alternative assessments, which include cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills, and promote self and peer assessments. Classroom assessments help teachers evaluate student learning and provide constructive feedback, allowing for the improvement of lesson plans.

Topic: Importance of Positive Parental Involvement in Math Education
Parental involvement is crucial in shaping a child's attitude towards math. The societal myth "I am not a math person" can negatively influence children, so it's important to debunk it and promote the idea that everyone can succeed in math with the right mindset. Math is an essential life skill embedded in daily activities, critical for problem-solving and analytical abilities. By viewing math as a universal language with practical applications, parents can help demystify it for their children. Integrating math into daily routines—such as cooking, shopping, and playing math-related games—can make learning fun and natural. Discussing math in everyday contexts and maintaining a positive attitude can foster a supportive learning environment, helping children build confidence and a lifelong appreciation for math.
Learning outcomes:Encourages parents to see math as a language and integrate it into daily conversations. This can be done by counting objects together, discussing shapes in the environment, and using math concepts while cooking or playing games. By making math a natural part of everyday life, children develop a stronger foundation and overcome anxieties.
Brief introduction:Dr Garima V. Arora, a dedicated math educator with a Ph.D., is transforming how children view and learn math. Combining her strong academic background with a passion for practical education, she implements alternative education methods with her own children. This hands-on experience led her to develop "Uncover Math Genius," a program that empowers parents to help their children learn math effortlessly through real-life situations.
Recognized for her significant contributions, Dr Arora is the author of a 3-volume series, "Calculus for Professionals," among other works, and is a math professor at the University of Delhi. She collaborates with progressive schools committed to enhancing their math curriculum, ensuring that math education becomes a source of joy and confidence for all students.
Topic: Redefining Mathematics Teaching: Integrating social and emotional skills for democratic education
The traditional approach to mathematics education is undergoing a necessary transformation. This shift ushers in a new paradigm that emphasizes the integration of social and emotional learning (SEL) within mathematics instruction. This paper argues that by fostering these crucial skills, mathematics can be leveraged as a powerful tool for democratic education. Through critical dialogue, students can develop not only mathematical proficiency but also the collaborative and inclusive mindsets necessary for a thriving democracy. Ultimately, this approach aims to demonstrably improve student learning outcomes by fostering a well-rounded educational experience.
Learning outcomes:Ms Meenakshi Shah, a proud Delhi University alumna with a Master's in Statistics and a B.Ed., has thrived for 27 years as a math teacher. Believing education transforms lives, she seeks innovative ways to engage students. As Vice Principal, she fosters strong school relationships and brings a wealth of experience. Outside of school, Ms. Shah prioritizes health and happiness, promoting a balanced lifestyle and positivity in both her professional and personal life.
Topic: Differentiated Instruction
The shift towards inclusive education has increased the diversity of academic needs in classrooms, making it difficult for teachers to reach all learners effectively. Traditional methods of teaching to the middle are no longer sufficient for students with varying abilities and exceptionalities (Pierce et al., 2004). Compounding this challenge are rising low achievement scores in mathematics (Geary, 2011).
Differentiated instruction, as endorsed by the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), customizes teaching methods, resources, and activities to cater to diverse student needs. This session will offer actionable strategies for implementing differentiated instruction in math, ensuring equitable support for every student.
Our session aims to equip educators with a practical framework to tackle classroom challenges, moving away from a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. By using varied instructional strategies, materials, and assessments, teachers can create personalized and inclusive learning experiences focused on building competencies.
Learning outcomes:Ms Shilpi Gupta, an academician with over 23 years of experience, excels in teaching, academic leadership, and educational technology. She has managed over 35,000 students and trained more than 4,000 teachers, developing systems to bridge learning gaps and pioneering online teacher training and student learning systems. As a progressive educator, she fosters continuous improvement for both teachers and students, ensuring personalized learning. This vision led to the founding of CO-BUILD, a platform dedicated to revolutionizing education with innovative solutions.
Topic: Why Do We Need To Make Mathematics Our Love Language?
Mathematics, often viewed as a dry and technical subject, holds the key to unlocking the universe's secrets. However, if we truly want students and teachers to be fluent in this fundamental language, we must first redefine what "fluency" means in the context of math. Our current definition falls short, focusing only on superficial aspects.
To achieve true fluency, akin to fluency in a spoken language, we need to consider five key pillars: factual knowledge, procedural skills, conceptual understanding, historical context, and contemporary applications. While we may adequately address the first three pillars, the thematic development of mathematics and its exciting current endeavours often get neglected. To speak the language of mathematics with passion and precision, especially in our fast-paced world, we need to address all five pillars of fluency.
Learning outcomes:Mr Sunil Singh, an author, storyteller, and porous mathematics educator, champions rich mathematics globally, blending history and current endeavours to humanize the subject. He has delivered over 100 keynotes, presentations, and workshops at diverse venues such as The Museum of Mathematics, The Royal Conservatory of Music, and The Italian Cultural Institute. In 2021, he presented a webinar on Culturally Responsive Mathematics for the US National Commission on Mathematics Instruction.
Singh collaborates with The Number Lab, promoting the beauty of mathematics to students and teachers. His upcoming book, "Sonic Seducer: Lust for Life With Our Heaviest Moments, Magic, and Memories of Rock and Roll," is set to release in 2024.
Topic: Cross-curricular Integration
